HugaPet was introduced at BCMC in 2006, designed to enhance the lives of folk who are elderly, lonely, frail or those who have experienced a traumatic event. Research has shown that the therapeutic values of a pet contribute to the emotional and physical well-being of such folk.
HugaPets (life-like dogs and cats, bunnies and bears) are the next best thing to a live pet that someone may once have had in their life. We have a variety of ‘pets’ that have, over the years, been given out to many people in retirement and frail care centres as well as to children who have suffered illness or a traumatic event such as injury in a motor vehicle accident, hijacking, rape and other violent crime incidents.
